2. What is Karen Silver?

The Karen people are a hill tribe of approximately 400,000 living in Northern Thailand, with a unique culture that blends animism, Buddhism, and Christianity.
Their "Karen Silver" is handmade jewelry crafted from high-purity silver. Here are its key characteristics:
Characteristics of Karen Silver
① High-Purity Silver
Even higher in purity than standard sterling silver (92.5%), Karen Silver uses 95–100% pure silver. This makes it soft and easy to work with, while giving it a distinctive warm, matte luster.
② Motifs Rooted in Nature and Daily Life
Reflecting the Karen people's lifestyle and beliefs, motifs include animals, plants, the sun, moon, and stars. Each pattern carries meaning and often serves as a protective charm.
③ 100% Handmade
Karen Silver is crafted entirely by hand using techniques passed down through generations. Unlike machine-made pieces, each one has warmth and character that makes it a true one-of-a-kind.
3. Tour Highlights
① Create Your Own Accessories

Choose from a ring or bangle and craft it yourself from start to finish. Pick your own design — from simple bands to intricately patterned pieces — and create something that is uniquely yours.

6. Reviews

Yanagi (female, 30s): "I made the perfect ring!"
I couldn't find a traditional ring I liked in Chiang Mai, but on this tour I created a simple design just to my taste. The artisan taught me so carefully — I was truly moved.

Yama (male, 30s): "The villagers taught me so patiently!"
I was worried because I'm not good with my hands, but the Karen artisans guided me so gently. We also got to explore the village — a wonderful memory as a couple.

H.K. (female, 30s): "Easy to resize too!"
Since high-purity silver is soft, you can adjust the size yourself — a great bonus. I enjoy wearing it as both an ear cuff and a ring.

Y: "So much more than just making silver!"
Not only did I get to make Karen Silver, but I also got a glimpse of the indigenous lifestyle. Completely satisfied! I ended up with a ring so beautiful it surprised even me.

H: "A precious experience learning directly from the Karen people."
Everyone was kind and friendly, making for a very comfortable experience. Using foot-pumped bellows during the torch work, and polishing with charcoal instead of sandpaper — full of things I'd never tried before!
R (female, 20s): "The most valuable experience of my life"
For me, a Karen Silver fan, this tour was truly a treasure. Seeing Karen Silver being made right in front of me — and then actually making it myself — was a shock. Being immersed in the background of Karen Silver, crafted by hand alongside beautiful nature and daily village life, was the most valuable experience of my life. Thank you so much.
7. FAQ
Q1. Where do we meet?
A private vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Chiang Mai. The meeting time will be confirmed after your booking is finalized. If there are multiple participants, we may arrange a central pickup location.
Q2. What kind of silver can I make?
The standard option is a ring, but you can also switch to a bangle after seeing the samples on-site (additional fee applies). Designs are freely chosen as long as they are not too complex.
Q3. Can I also purchase silver, not just make it?
Yes! The village has a Karen Silver shop where you can buy a wide variety of designs at local prices — designs unavailable in Chiang Mai. Purchases are optional and not included in the tour fee.
Q4. I'm concerned about food hygiene.
Meals are served at the village eatery. Our team checks the conditions and quality in advance. No participants have experienced stomach issues to date, but we recommend bringing personal medication if you are concerned.
Q5. Can children join?
As the craft involves fire and tools, children are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. A wonderful family memory awaits!
